Joshua Cohen of Marcus & Millichap Donates $17K to Summit7

LAGUNA NIGUEL, California, May 31, 2007 (Business Wire) – Joshua Cohen, an investment professional with Marcus & Millichap, an Encino, CA-based real estate investment services company, has donated $17K to Summit7 to assist Evan Jacobsen in his efforts to raise over $1m for housing for families around the world. Mr. Cohen learned of Summit7 through his business relationship with Summit7 co-founder Donald Jacobsen, and spearheaded the donation through a joint effort with Marcus & Millichap.

“When I learned about Summit7 and Evan’s efforts, I knew it was a cause that I could get behind,” stated Joshua Cohen, Marcus & Millichap Investment Professional. “As a real estate investment professional, I understand the impact that suitable housing has on people. I admire Evan’s efforts and want to encourage others to consider donating as well. Summit7 can make a difference. Even a few dollars will go a long way in some of the countries that Summit7 is working to help.”

“This is the first large, corporate donation for Summit7, and I couldn’t be happier,” exclaimed Evan Jacobsen, 16. “I was truly overwhelmed that Mr. Cohen and Marcus & Millichap put their trust and money in my hands. I won’t let them down. Their donation will go directly to Habitat for Humanity for immediate projects in Tanzania, Russia, Australia and Argentina.”

Evan’s last climb was on December 27, 2006, when he summited Mt. Kosciuszko in Australia. He next climb is scheduled for February 2008, when he will climb Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina. To date, Evan has completed three of the Seven Summits – Mt. Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Mt. Elbrus (Russia), and Mt. Kosciuszko (Australia).

“I’m going to focus on getting our message out to more people over the next six months. My goal short-term goal is to raise enough before my next climb to build at least several homes in each of the countries where I have already climbed, as well as Argentina,” said Evan. “I can’t thank Mr. Cohen and Marcus & Millichap enough for believing in Summit7. They have really made a difference for families in need.”

About Summit7

Summit7 is a non-profit organization raising funds for housing projects in the countries of Tanzania, Russia, Nepal, Australia, Argentina and the U.S. Summit7’s goal is to raise over $1m in the next several years, in conjunction with their efforts to summit the seven tallest peaks on the world’s seven continents.

Summit7 has designated Habitat for Humanity, The Fuller Center for Housing, and the International Arctic Research Center as benefactors for funds raised through their efforts for the countries noted above. Funds donated in association with Summit7’s Mt. Vinson, Antarctica climb will be donated to the International Arctic Research Center for the study of global environmental issues.

Summit7 was founded in 2006 by Evan Jacobsen, now 16, a sophomore at San Clemente High School in Orange County, CA, and his father, Donald Jacobsen, 47, a business owner and entrepreneur. Edie Jacobsen, Katherine Hills, Rich Galpin, and Bethany Fernley, former Director, Major Gifts, for Habitat for Humanity International, complete the board of Summit7.

Evan’s climbing experience includes successful summit expeditions to Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, Mt. Elbrus, Russia, and Mt. Kosciuszko, Australia, as well as prior attempts of Mt. Elbrus and Mt. Kosciuszko. Evan has also climbed several 10K+ peaks in California and Washington, and attended the Alpine Ascents International Mountaineering School in preparation for his climbs. In addition, he is a member of the American Alpine Club and has climbed with Adventure Consultants, headquartered in New Zealand. He is a member of San Clemente High School’s football and weight lifting teams, and is currently the second highest ranked long snapper for his age division in the United States.

If Evan is successful in his attempts to climb the tallest summit on each of the seven continents over the next several years, Evan could become the youngest person in history to achieve this goal.
